Editing inventory records

Every row on the Inventory page is a record for one feed location — a bunk, pile, bag, or pit measured on a flight. Keeping these records accurate is what makes your tonnage and forecasts trustworthy.

Opening a record

  1. On the Inventory page, select your farm, site, and Date Flown.
  2. In the feed table, click the row you want to change (each row shows a click to edit hint next to its location name).
  3. Make your edits and click Save, or Cancel to discard them.

What you can edit

The exact fields depend on your plan and page version, but records generally include:

  • Feed Type — the main category of feed (for example, Conventional Corn Silage or Alfalfa Haylage).
  • Specific Feed Type — the secondary category of feed.
  • Feed Code — a customizable feed code or name for your own labeling.
  • Year Cut and Cut Number — when the feed was harvested and its harvest sequence.
  • Density — the entered as-fed or dry-matter density. See Working with silage density for how entered values interact with calculated ones.
  • Dry Matter % — the percentage of the feed that is dry matter. This drives the conversion between As Fed and Dry Matter tons.
  • Used Tons — measured tons used since the previous flight. Entering this lets SilagePlan calculate a density for you (Calculate Density).
  • Used Tons Per Day — how many tons are fed from this location per day, edited under the Customize Forecast heading along with the Forecast Sequence. This feeds the custom forecast and runout projections.

The location name itself is shown as the dialog’s heading (it’s editable in Inventory V2, not here), and Feed Open Date appears as a read-only table column.

The Volume and Tons values come from the drone measurement, so tonnage updates automatically when you correct density or DM%.

Editing in Inventory V2

If you use Inventory V2 (Beta), the same data is edited through the Feed Information section. Click Edit Feed Info to update fields such as As Fed Density, Dry Matter Density, DM%, Animal Group, and Cows Fed across your locations — changes autosave. Per-day use is edited in the V2 forecast tool (PDU), not in Feed Information. New locations that arrive from a flight without complete details are flagged so you can add the missing information.

Why it matters

  • Density and DM% directly change your tonnage — a small correction here can move total inventory significantly.
  • Used Tons Per Day and the feeding sequence drive your runout dates.
  • Animal Group assignments enable the Animal Group forecast views described in Create a forecast.

Tips

  • Update records shortly after each flight is processed, while feeding details are fresh.
  • If a value looks wrong across a whole feed type, check the density and DM% first — they are the most common cause.
  • In Inventory V2, records you created yourself can be deleted (removing them from inventory and forecasts) — so only delete locations that truly no longer exist.
